I love having a night in. If my 21-year-old self could look at me now she’d be crying. I love to sleep, I love staying in, I’ve even started to learn crochet – I’ve changed so drastically since my university days. My 21-year-old self is still in there, I still love a good glass (or several) of prosecco and getting dressed up and dancing, however, I can’t quite bounce back like I used to so having the perfect night in becomes more and more favourable.
Gone are the days of binge watching Dexter on my laptop, now you need to be watching something on a big screen in order to not strain your eyes. I’d recommend a big daddy of entertainment like the Panasonic UHD 4K TV. It’s been designed to ‘deliver picture quality accurate to the filmmaker’s original vision’ and it’s a whopping 65 inches. You’ll never have to take out a small loan to fund a cinema trip ever again when you’ve got it right at home.
How to have the perfect night in
Build your fort
Preparation is key, mise-en-place and all that jazz. Get your setup done before you start ordering food or loading up Netflix. What kind of night in do you want to have? A cuddly romantic night in with your other half? A slightly wild night in with the girls? Your setting changes dependent on that. If I want a cosy evening with my boyfriend, the duvet makes it’s way downstairs, all the cushions on the floor and the candles and fairy lights get thrown on too. I try to make it as cosy, warm and hygge as possible.
Pick your entertainment
Hands up if you’ve ever sat down with dinner for it to be freezing by the time you found something enjoyable to watch with it. That’s me, all the time, regardless if I’m with people or alone. This needs to be done probably the week before for me however I’m sure any normal person doesn’t have to go that far. Do you want to binge watch a series? Watch a film? My go to recently has been re-watching the Gilmore Girls series and I’m loving it!
It doesn’t all have to be about what you watch, it can also be about what you play. No I’m not talking about monopoly or mahjong, I’m talking about games! My boyfriend is an avid gamer and he tries to get me involved all the time, now whilst I won’t be picking up a pad to play FIFA, we’ve played such silly games like Overcooked which are so fun. The size and picture quality of the Panasonic UHD 4K TV is perfect for a night of gaming.
Get your feast ready
Oh, my favourite part! Nothing beats food and nothing beats a great night in more than ordering a takeaway. It’s a perfect treat to add to any night in. Pizza is a brilliant sharer food, you don’t even need cutlery so it’s a winner when the girls come round. When it’s me and my boyfriend it’s Chinese or Indian all the way with every trimming they have. This is the most acceptable time to be eating three different carbs in one sitting.
A perfect night in is not complete without snacks. I tend to raid the 3 for £1 sweetie aisle of Tesco and load up on popcorn and crisps because I’m aiming for my 5-a-day carb intake.
There’s nothing worse than being uncomfy in your clothes, this is the main reason why I never wear jeans (they’re so restrictive). I love nothing more than popping on some fleecy pyjama pants and fluffy socks, then removing them halfway through the night because it’s still only September and you’re now roasting.
Getting comfy also involves making sure you’ve got everything done first so you can sit back, relax and have the perfect night in.
